Artist's StoryI was going through pictures from a Philippines trip and I was intrigued by my Tito (Uncle) Willie’s car. His car looked like a Jeepney — the most popular form of transportation in the Philippines — but it was very tiny and could only fit a handful of people. Thinking back, I’m pretty sure his Jeepney was unique — half jeep, half car. I have a fond memory of riding with my Tito Willie, Tita (Aunt) Emma, cousin (Queenzy), and Lola (Grandma) Rosing to go to church on a Sunday morning.
Tito Willie doesn’t have his Jeepney anymore, so I wanted to draw it to bring it back to life. Through my process, I ended up combining Tito Willie’s Jeepney with an original jeepney for this piece, using primary colours since they’re my favourite.
